| I've already had my lower wisdom teeth pulled...but now I gotta get my upper wisdoms extracted!
Nooooooo! The pain! The pain! DA PAIN!!!!!
Man, the last time I got my wisdom teeth extracted ...like, 2,3 years ago... I could only eat soft foods for a week. I was at home in California at the time, and a couple of days after the procedure I asked Mom if we could go to Boston Market for lunch, since they had meatloaf. Not a bad idea, at first...
...but later in the evening I reexperienced breakfast and lunch. Ain't that wonderful. I thought, 'well, ok, I'm kinda sick, just skip dinner and hit the sack.' But it was faaaaar from over.
The whole night, my stomach had horribly violent spasms and I was constantly forced to face the porcelain. Over and over and over again. Not even Sprite or anything could stay in my stomach for long. Hell, even if there wasn't anything it my stomach would just clench up and force me to puke nothing. IT'S F*CKING PAINFUL!
Early morning after, all dehydrated and what not, went to the doctor to see what was wrong. Got examined, and it turns out I got e.coli. Oh great, just a day or two after I get my teeth pulled and I'm slammed with I'm-gonna-f*ck-your-stomach-up-till-you-can't-recognize-it" e.coli. Just great. So I had to have an IV drip for a couple of hours and got my shots or something...can't exactly remember much, I was so tired from puking all night I passed out sitting in the patient's chair. Yeah.
So let's see what the hell will happen to me this time when I try to change my diet to accomodate my lack-of-ability-to-eat-real-food. Who knows, with my luck, I just might end up suffering from mono or some shit like that. Yeah, that'll be fun.
Tomorrow is sedate-and-pull day!
| WHOO! I've finally UPDATED my deviantArt gallery! Go look! Go look!
THE FAT MAN DEMANDS THAT YOU LOOK!
Anyway, went to Shanghai with the parents for the weekend. The new MagLev (Magnetic Levitation) Train? Very cool. Went up to 300 km/h, and the ride was still smooth and oh so comfortable! 300 km/h a bit fast? Nah, it goes faster - 400 km/h in broad daylight (we rode it during the evening - they slow it down during the morning and at night).
Food is TASTELICIOUS. Oh gawd, XiaoLong Buns and NianGao - sooooooo tasty. We also had dinner with a whole bunch of family friends at this private home that one of Mom's friends managed to hook the whole party up with. Very cool. The house was huge! Well-furnished with antique...furniture. Yeah. It's very cool. Dinner was very good too, but it was hella expensive. Not sure my parents liked it all that much - all the ingredients were fresh and what not, dishes cooked very well...but not a whole lot of variety. Eh, I liked it. But when has Derek Tam NOT liked food?
OK, well, the most recent disappointment - those new FANtastic burgers at HK McDonalds? They're called FANtastic because they sandwich the burger between two sticky rice patties - rice, in Chinese, is called "fahn". (F'uh-ah-n) So, in a British accent, I guess you could pronounce it "fahn-tah-stick". Anyway, those FANtastic burgers?
Not that f*cking fantastic. AT ALL.

| Blargh, technology all around me, breaking down so sudden so soundly. My laptop was on a the fritz for a few days - the fan was acting up all of a sudden. Went from a 'whiiiiiir' sound to some horrible, 'kkkkkkkkkkk' grinding sound that could prolly be mistaken for a dull, rusty butcher blade scraping against some dead animal's bones in a chophouse.
Ok, maybe I exaggerated a little...
Anyway, fan broke down, so I had to take the computer into repair post-haste, lest I wanted my computer to overheat and explode on me. Indeed, I would prefer not to have to go to the hospital and explain why the hell every key from a QWERTY keyboard is embedded in my face. The Fujitsu service center was out in Quarry Bay - no more than a 20 min. MTR ride from my apartment. Thankfully, the laptop was still under a warranty (JUST A WEEK LEFT! NO WAY!), so they had the whole thing fixed up and ready for me to pick up in just 3 days. Phew!
I should really update my DA more often - I've been occupying my creative time with more art assignments from Malcolm. Whoops! Almost forgot to mention - I've started taking art lessons from a master artist in Hong Kong. Malcolm Golding came from England to HK 26 years ago and is the man responsible for that HUGE-ASS painting in the lobby of the Kowloon Shangri-La. Very cool man - very creative artist. I get a lot out of learning hanging out with him, what with leanring how to really spruce up my art and solidify my foundational skills. I'm gonna become a better artist under his guidance.
I guess this is it - I'm driving to becoming an artist - maybe a graphic designer or illustrator - and will be working on that "other side of the traintracks." No, I will not be a conventional or forward-thinking man and work a sensible job, such as one in the fields of medicine or engineering. No, I will not be successful and pratical so that I can actualy make money for myself. No, I have turned to the Dark Side!
Malcolm Golding is MY master now.
It's really where I want to and can take art, I suppose. I guess some business courses are in order when I get back to college this fall. If I want to be a successful artist, whether selling art for a living or working for a company - anything of the creative sort, I'm going to have to work really hard in order to provide for myself.
Also - the world is VERY flat, and you better wisen up to it quick. I'm not gonna sit around and just be vanilla. I'm gonna be the damn most tasty chocalate sauce you can get, and my cherries & cream just make that sundae all the more a killer dessert. America, you better fucking watch out - this kid's not listening to lazy-white-boy-culture-bullshit any longer.

| Dropping your iPod sucks. Dropping your iPod about 10 times really sucks. Dropping your iPod and the hard disk completely f***s up on you both sucks and blows.
While I was at USC, my iPod died on me. Not the poor machine's fault, loathe I am to admit it. Nope, it was because of my own carelessness. Apple wouldn't take it, nobody around would repair it, and I was too attached to it to simply throw it out and buy one of those new fancy 30GB video-playing iPods.
I'm in Hong Kong right now (arrived just a couple of weeks ago) and decided to take the machine apart. Boy, I tell ya, taking an iPod apart can be a real b*tch. If you don't know what you're doing, you end up not getting anywhere and possibly stabbing yourself accidentally with the stupid flathead screwdriver. After a good couple of hours fiddling, I finally learned how to pop the iPod's face up a bit, then wiggle the screwdriver blade in between the plastic and the metal. Then it was all cake from then on.
This afternoon, went down to the Wanchai Computer Center and picked up a replacement harddisk. I was hoping to get a Toshiba 1.8" 30GB, but all they had were 20s, 40s and 60s, so I ended up buying the 20GB (anything bigger and the disk itself gets just a few millimeters thicker - somehow, just a tad too big to fit in the iPod).
Once home, I put the iPod back together with the new hard disk and immediately tried to restore the iPod back to factory settings. After a couple of false starts, I managed to eventually get the iPod Updater to restore my iPod and get the hard disk running with the iPod. Success!
Problem: I need the wall charger to charge my iPod and allow the firmware reflash. F***. So close...Shoulda bought one while in Wanchai. Tomorrow, then!
